Children Service Department
The children’s department is one of the many ministry groups in the church. It deals with the souls of young peoples.  It is a department divided into two major groups comprising of

    •    Toddlers  -  9months-5 yrs
    •    Children -  6-12 yrs

The objective of this department is to bring together all the children in the church and put them in their proper age groups so as to make teaching and learning more effective and also to make class control easy during church services.

The aim is to teach and train them in the word of God at the early stages of their lives.  The Bible says in Proverbs 22:6 that “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” So training the children to know who God is and how to walk in His ways even as children is the preoccupation of this department.

As precious jewels in the sight of God, it is our responsibility to train, teach, counsel and direct them in the ways of the Almighty God who has entrusted them to our care.

THE TODDLERS
This group in the children department is made up the very young ones form the ages of 9 months – 5 years. They are in a category of 3.

    •    2 year group
    •    3 year group
    •    4 and 5 year group.  We also have another class known as the special or body class where teachers who are nursing their babies together with babies of mothers in the main congregation stay.

ATTENDANCE:  Toddlers and children 900. During holidays this number increases.


CHARACTERISTIC
This is a very special group of children in all the age groupings.  They create their own world and like to be independent.  They also love music and action a lot.  Also they like to be attended to very often.  The methodology used to teach them is different, because their attention span is very short barely 10-15 minutes, so actions, songs, toys and plenty of pictures which go along with the Bible stories shown to them on video.  They like to feel and see everything you say and talk about.  They learn by observation, very sensitive and selective especially whom they should approach and befriend for comfort and assurance.  Their best time is when you can sing for them Christian lullabies.  Therefore their teachers are not changed as often as the others.

CLASS MANAGEMENT
Lesson begins a few minutes after the adult church has begun with praise and worship and interesting jokes to settle them down.  Most of them cry when their mothers come to leave them behind but quickly they get settled by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Teaching takes 15 minutes at most and then they are switched on to Bible stories in films or music tune from the teachers or from tapes.

They are served with snacks at every service gathering which they really enjoy.  As they grow they are graduated and ushered into the next age group.

They are a group that is touching in the heart and in the physical. They rob their whole bodies on you, and they call for plenty of pampering.  They are very lovely and easy to control.

THE CHILDREN
This group cuts across the ages of 6 years to 12 years and is in six different age groups.  6 and 7 years are put together while 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 years are put separately.  This arrangement helps in effective teaching and learning and also promotes the sense of belonging.  Also it enables the children to express themselves and feel at home to partake in all activities planned for them.  Furthermore this arrangement help the teachers assigned to the various classes to teach according to the standard of the children.
